Erich is a member of the faction of the Canadian Green Party which originally prompted me to quit the party years ago. I have since rejoined, because I see signs that saner voices are starting to be heard. Erich may not have actively lobbied for more immigration (although the veracity of his statements are certainly in question), but he is most certainly an apologist for May's views that we need hundred of thousands of immigrants in Canada.
Erich's responses to Brian Gordon's very rational post last year in a Green Party discussion clearly demonstrate his own biases. As long as we stuff more and more people into dense development, we can just keep on with business as usual.
News flash, Erich. The planet is already far into ecological overshoot. Canadians are among the greatest consumers on the planet. Even with denser development, we are adding to our total consumption and exacerbating our impact on this planet. It is intellectually dishonest to say that we can reduce our per capita consumption, while still promoting growth which negates any reductions and in fact makes our impact on this planet even worse. Each additional Canadian is an insult to the poorer people of this planet.
It is sad indeed that a party which claims to represent the environment of this planet harbours people like Erich who seem to care so little about what we are leaving behind for our children and for future generations. In his lack of regard for the poorer people on this planet, in his lack of regard for future generations, Erich and his ilk are the true misanthropes.
And for what reason? Pure, blatant political opportunism.
