Maintain the Rage Against Madden and Boral

Anger against Planning Minister Madden continues down the coast about the Bitumen Plant he approved over everyone's heads, even his own Panel.

Crib Point Advisory Group Inc.
Seeking to advance the social, environmental and economic interests of the
Crib Point Community

PLANNING MINISTER MADDEN HAS APPROVED BORAL'S
APPLICATION TO BUILD AND OPERATE A BITUMEN STORAGE AND
TRANSPORT FACILITY ON THE FORESHORE AT CRIB POINT ON
WESTERN PORT BAY
THIS DECISION FLIES IN THE FACE OF THE MINISTER MADDEN
APPOINTED ADVISORY PANEL WHO RECOMMENDED THE
APPLICATION BE REFUSED
WHAT ARE THE ISSUES AND HOW WILL THIS EFFECT YOUR FAMILY
- Prior to the last election every household received a letter from the Bracks
led Labor Party promising that there would be no bitumen plant in Crib
Point. On taking over from Mr Bracks, Mr Brumby promised that he would
uphold all of the Bracks' Government promises. What happened to this
promise ??
- 30 or more B Double Truck movements per day travelling along Frankston
Flinders Rd to Stony Point Rd and then Woolley's Rd at all hours of the
day and night. An alternative route is Disney St, Frankston Flinders Rd.
- Boral's Material Safety Data sheet states that bitumen is probably
Carcinogenic ( Cancer Causing), it is classified as Hazardous, it is
combustible and toxic gases may evolve, it may contaminate the soil and
that is what they will admit to.
- The only sand beach in Crib Point would be next door to this monstrosity
belching fumes 24 hours a day 7 days a week.
- Then there is the noise with a variety of pumps operating 24 hours a day 7
days a week plus the noise from the B Double trucks and Asian tankers ..
Many residents will suffer from sleep disturbance and will not be able to
open their windows at all.
Children walking to the school bus along Woolley's Rd. cyclists, pony club
riders, bush walkers, fishermen driving to launch their boats and people
just walking their dog are now under threat from B-Double trucks sharing
Woolley's Rd and The Esplanade. Our lifestyles, the reason why we all
moved here will be gone along with the Peace and Tranquillity. Minister
Madden has put lives at risk !!
Kangaroos, Wallabies, Koalas, Echidnas and Sugar Gliders all live on the
Foreshore as does the endangered, Southern Brown Bandicoot. After the
recent bush fires, Peninsula Link and Mr Madden's decision to issue a
permit for Boral's facility, the Southern Brown Bandicoot faces the threat of
extinction in the Western Port region .. Let's hope residents don't go the
same way.
Western Port Bay is a RAMSAR site and internationally significant on
many levels.
Then there's the promised 30 jobs. We believe that the majority of the
infrastructure for this facility will be manufactured and imported from
overseas with overseas engineers overseeing the manufacture and
assembly of the facility. The possible 30 jobs are probably not local with
the exception of the pipe manufacturing. These jobs will be very short term
and only until building is complete. The Facility is thought to only operate
for 20 years and in operation there would be 2 jobs only. Even the
Bitumen is imported. Good on Minister Madden for providing jobs for
people living in Asia !!
Research on Internet sites for ACCC, ABC News and EPA Victoria reveal
that Boral have been fined 10's of millions of dollars for Price Fixing,
Pollution, and Illegal dumping of industrial waste to name but a few.
With the Stony Point/Cowes Car Ferry proposal, now, gaining momentum.
The region has many natural assets which would provide many, many
tourism and business opportunities bringing with it thousands of jobs and
millions of dollars to the region. Minister Madden's decision to approve this
application has cost us these opportunites, jobs and millions of dollars.
Boral on the other hand will bring 2 jobs, no money and destruction of
lifestyle and environment to the region.
REMEMBER THERE IS A STATE ELECTION NEXT YEAR!
WE HAVE TO MAINTAIN THE RAGE AND CONTINUE THE FIGHT
