THE EXTRAORDINARY CITY OF MELBOURNE

Tagged:

SOMETHING REALLY  ASTONISHING HAS BEEN BROUGHT TO MY  ATTENTION TODAY.
This  does make you  wonder about the  democratic  system of  our central  city  and how this must  effect the planning decisions at times.

In all Council,  State and Federal elections  to be eligible to vote you have to be an Australian citizen – fair enough.    You cant vote in any other country when you might go there   for awhile.  However in the City  of Melbourne  you are able to vote  if  you have been in Melbourne for one month, no matter what your nationality.   One month!!!  Then you can vote  for councillors who will make major decisions about planning in our  City of Melbourne.

MORE ON THE URBAN GROWTH BOUNDARY EXTENSION

Tagged:

More letters published today gives you an indication of the unpopularity of this decision to extend the boundaries again. But probably the most interesting item is the result of the poll. 90% of the voters said NO to the plan. Pretty overwhelming one would say. We need to tell the government to listen to the voice of the people.

The Rezoning of Land on the Outskirts of Melbourne

Tagged:

These letters about it in the Age  spell it out.
Of course the biggest mistake is to keep immigration at such high levels  and the Federal government made it clear they  are increasing the numbers.
However, figures in Melbourne show that there is too much being built and  it cant be sold.
The developers are undeterred and push for even more land to develope as time goes by and the government have given in to them.
The worst feature  is the building on good farm and market garden land -  we are going to  regret this down the track  as food prices go up and you see more imported food in the supermarket.   Start reading the labels.
The fact is that we dont want to go up and we dont want to go out -  solution is to slow migration down to a sustainable number and then we will all be happy, because we are not happy now.

Yet another Box Hill tower wants to rise from the ashes

Tagged:

The last  30 plus storey tower of about 3 years ago  got defeated  and now here we go again.   Last time Matthew Guy, in opposition,   was, very correctly, on TV against it.    See the video on MARVELLOUSMELBOURNE.ORG
Here is the latest.  Why do designers put up  such unattractive buildings?

Dear Editor,

The founder of international talkfest TED, Chris Anderson, is terribly wrong if he believes a world of 10 billion people is a good thing, and that building bigger mega cities is ‘going to save humanity’ (‘Vertical living is the answer to the world’s population growth’ 29/5/12).

Planning Panel scathingly critical of City of Melbourne Strategic Planning

Tagged:

Strategic Planning at the City of Melbourne does not appear to be going very well.  Just read the following decision.  The Planning Panel appointed by the Victorian State Government was very unimpressed.  You do not see decisions and comments like this very often.
