Brumby Government Takeover Of Council Planning Power - Bernadett George

Critical Letter By Bernadette George - Social Planner

A PROFESSIONAL SOCIAL PLANNER BERNADETTE GEORGE ATTACKS GOVERNMENT AND DEFENDS ACTIVISTS

As a PIA member and past Vic President during the Kennett era, I wish to formally register my concern at the growing tendency by the current Brumby government to increasingly side-step the local government planning process. Given my origins in Qld under the demonstrably corrupt Bjelke Petersen regime and more recent blatantly cosy relationship between the Beattie – Bligh administration and the development industry, I can only observe how much more Victoria is starting to resemble Qld every day, and I am not just talking about global warming.

NSW CORRUPTION AND PLANNING ISSUES FROM SOS SYDNEY   -  AND THINK OF VICTORIA

Hi Members

The ICAC has released its findings on the Wollongong Council corruption scandal that we first alerted you to in February.  This scandal, which has badly affected Wollongong, again featured on Quentin Dempster's ABC TV Stateline program on Friday night. From the attached report from the Australian Financial Review you will notice that the ICAC commissioner Jerrold Cripps recommended that the Minister of Planning Frank Sartor revoke the approval of the controversial development at the centre of the scandal.  Frank Sartor is resisting this.  We wonder why.
